Meet Jasmine Goins, LCSW

Pronouns: she/her/hers

**Offering In-Office and Online Video Sessions**

Jasmine Goins, LSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and am often thought of as patient and warm. My clients experience me as empathetic, motivating, and professional when combined create a safe space and therapeutic environment. It is an absolute honor that people trust me, and it is my obligation to serve them adequately in a non-judgmental space.

My Background…

Though I grew up in Chicago, I always believed that in order for me to grow, I must change my environment. I received my Bachelor of Social Work at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. Shortly after, I received my first Master’s Degree from DePaul University in Educating Adults. A few years following I earned my second Masters’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Clinical Social Work. As a therapist, I have worked in various educational settings, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, and in-home therapeutic services. All of my experiences combined have strengthened my ability to handle almost any situation which allows me to also offer that same level of tenacity for people who may be experiencing challenges.

How I Help…

There’s a proverb that says “you may be lost, but you are not defeated.” Many people seek therapy for a variety of reasons and the mere fact of their initiative shows they may be lost but they won’t give up. I have the desire to help others discover the parts of themselves that were hidden, isolated, or maybe even afraid. By using Strength-Based Therapy, individuals are able to develop a portrait of themselves with the qualities and skills they already possess.

I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship will allow clients the space to challenge uncomfortable thought processes and address unhealthy behaviors while recognizing the strengths and endowments they have in their own growth and development.

I also utilize skills found in evidence-based therapies including Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to address anxiety, depression, ADHD, identity issues, marital problems, grief and loss, trauma, generational trauma, transitions, and goals. I also enjoy working with parents wanting to improve their relationships with their children.

When working with couples, I primarily use Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I particularly like utilizing this approach with couples as it provides couples with tools to use in and out of sessions. These tools help couples to improve their friendship and intimacy, argue more productively, and create a shared vision for their relationship without sacrificing their own individuality.

On a more personal note…

When I’m not in a therapeutic setting, I enjoy meditating, cooking, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy having an inactive day once in a blue moon (often rare as a parent), which is my way of “relaxing and recharging” for my next steps in life.
