Therapist Spotlight: An Interview with Joslyn Meissner

Therapist Spotlight: An Interview with Joslyn

DK Therapy has grown in the past six months and we would like to  give you the opportunity to get to know a little more about our therapists, what challenges their clients face, and what it would be like to work with them.

At DK, we focus on your comfort within the therapy office. We hope that knowing a bit about your therapist before your first visit, helps you make a connection even before meeting them.

Without further ado…

What experiences have brought you to the helping profession?

Joslyn Meissner, LCPC

Joslyn Meissner, LCPC

Joslyn Meissner:

I have always taken an interest in helping others.  At first, I wasn’t quite sure where that was going to lead me, but when I took a psychology course in high school, it suddenly clicked.  I went on to major in psychology in college. I got several amazing opportunities while working at a clinic in college to work with clients and their families. Working there enabled me to see the power of counseling and the positive impact it had.

What is a therapy session like with you?

Joslyn Meissner:

Joslyn QuoteI recognize that coming to therapy is a huge step, whether it is your first time in therapy or starting with a new therapist. When you come to therapy, you sit down with someone you have never met and are expected to share details of your life. The whole process can be pretty intimidating. I recognize that this step is not easy and hope to provide a welcoming and safe environment where clients feel comfortable candidly sharing their stories. Therapy is not one size fits all, so I truly believe in working collaboratively with my clients. I hope to empower them throughout our sessions together. I make sure to ask clients what they hope to gain from therapy, and I work with them to find what evidence-based approaches and techniques work for them and their lives.

What do you hope clients gain when working with you?

Joslyn Meissner:

I hope my clients are able to gain knowledge and insight into themselves that they may not have had before starting therapy. I strive to provide clients with the skills to enhance their abilities to handle a variety of life stressors. When their time in therapy feels complete, I hope that they will be able to utilize those skills with confidence outside of the therapy office.

Curious to find out more? Part 2 of Joslyn’s interview will be posted soon.
