Chris Dubois, MA

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, but I am often thought of as the friend who will listen. My clients experience me as compassionate and willing to give active feedback, which, when combined, creates a safe space and therapeutic environment. I strive to take the time to authentically engage with my clients to understand what they are experiencing from their perspective.

How I Help…

I believe all people experience pain due to societal expectations and social pressures. Healing can start to occur when we find safe spaces to be witnessed in the multitude of complex social identities we all hold. As we see how these identities have shaped us as individuals, we can see ourselves in new ways and feel more empowered to create the future we want for ourselves.

I take pride in developing safe spaces together with my clients where they can feel witnessed. As we see ourselves, others, our relationships, and our environment in all of their complexity, we can start to find peace and understanding where previously there might have been pain and confusion. Coming to terms with both the struggles and joys of life is a difficult, but rewarding process of embracing our most authentic selves. I feel honored to be able to accompany my clients on this journey.

Some schools of thought I lean into to help facilitate this process are person-centered therapy, existentialism, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.

My Background…

I grew up in Maumee, Ohio. I received my Undergraduate degree in Anthropology at Loyola University of Chicago and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. As a therapist, I have worked in private practice settings with adult individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, and interpersonal conflict. This work has fortified my passion for supporting individuals and couples looking to make greater meaning of what they are experiencing in their lives.

On a more personal note…

I enjoy ping pong, concerts, and playing video games. I also enjoy trips to search for and learn about fossils.  I have a dog who is a pitbull-whippet mix, or, as they are less commonly known as a “pippet”. While she doesn’t yet have the degree, she is a certified good girl in my book!
