I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. but I am often thought of as a compassionate and inclusive supporter. My clients experience me as an empathetic and thoughtful person who strives to bring clarity behind difficult situations or experiences, all the while creating a safe, therapeutic environment. I try not to think too elaborately, but when the time comes to consider all the moving pieces that make up our identities, circumstances, and lives, then I pride myself in being intentional. By making sense of all those moving parts, we learn how to clear the fog to see ourselves and our circumstances more clearly.
My Background…
I grew up in Chicago, but moved around as a kid, living in other states and Mexico, yet this city has become my forever home. I received my undergraduate degree at Saint Xavier University and my Master’s degree from Adler University. I am currently a Doctoral Candidate and Adjunct Professor at Adler University, pursuing a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision.
As a therapist, I have worked with a wide range of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual or relational violence, self-harming behaviors, grief, occupational stressors, relationship difficulties, and the exploration of one’s gender, sexual, or racial identity. This experience has solidified my passion for working with those that have struggled in silence to find their voice and see the strengths within.
How I Help…
I pride myself in adapting to the individual needs and intersectional identities of my clients. I believe that it is essential to find a therapist that makes you feel respected and acknowledged. As such, I strive to embody this in the clinical approaches and therapeutic processes I use with my clients to uniquely address one’s presenting concerns. I actively utilized therapeutic techniques founded in evidence-based approaches that include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, and Feminist and Multicultural frameworks.
Throughout my clinical work, I have found that events throughout our lives can be a source of great self-awareness and resilience. We are all works-in-progress and the world around us can either assist us in continuing this process or can sometimes steer us in the wrong direction. I strive to work with my clients to find the most rewarding path and the healthiest balance of one’s needs, through learning more about oneself, others, and the world around us.
I believe that we sometimes construct stories within us and about us that can be filled with so much fear, sadness, pain, anger, confusion, and emptiness. Together, I strive to work with my clients in rewriting their story. To identify meaningful connections to themes within their story. And to work towards building the skills to continuously author a story that brings forward immense strength, insight, fulfillment, and enjoyment in one’s life. I believe that everyone is entitled to a life and relationships that bring forward meaning, connection, and self-actualization.
On a more personal note…
When I am not engaging in therapeutic work or teaching, I enjoy camping, hiking, exercising, photography, and spending time with my family and friends. I love to be immersed in nature and appreciate the calmness that comes with listening to the rustling noises of a forest. I enjoy all things aromatherapy and appreciate all kinds of herbal teas.
