I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Clinical Director at DK Therapy, but I am often thought of as an optimist and a problem solver. My clients experience me as warm, open-minded and professional, which combined create a safe space and therapeutic environment. I try not to take myself too seriously, but when the time comes to address more serious issues, I pride myself in being a non-judgmental listener.
How I Help…
I understand that every person is unique and so, I believe it is important to collaborate with you to develop a therapeutic plan that will best fit your needs. I blend evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support a greater sense of wellbeing and meaning.
Life can often bring transitions that can sometimes feel overwhelming and have an effect on a person’s wellbeing. I believe it is important to build on your personal strengths during these moments to help you achieve your identified goals. I strive to assist clients in building self-confidence so you can feel good about yourself and your progress through life. Furthermore, I work with my clients developing new insights into themselves that can help them through whatever life obstacles they may be facing.
I am also trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and utilize this evidance-based approach when working with couples. I particularly like utilizing this approach with couples as it provdes couples with tools to use in and out of sessions. These tools help couples to improve their friendship and intimacy, argue more productively, and create a shared vision for their relationship without sacrificing their own individuality. I enjoy working with couples at every stage of their relationship and am trained in Prepare-Enrich, which helps pre-marital couples learn important skills in the areas of communication, confl ict resolution, financial management, and stress management. Couples are given an assessment that creates customizable results and increases their whole awareness of their relationship.
Additionally, I work with people managing anxiety and depression. My goal is to create a supportive space for you to explore these issues and provide you with the necessary tools to address these issues. I work with you to help build skills, gain insight, and increase self-awareness. I’m passionate about helping my clients learn to utilize the skills outside of the therapy room to live a fulfilling and meaningful life.
My Background…
I grew up in a Chicago suburb and attended college at Illinois State University where I received my Undergraduate degree in Psychology. I moved into the city to further my education and receive my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. As a therapist, I have worked closely with individuals in crisis situations and have experience working with anxiety, depression as well as severe mental illness.
Previously, I worked in clinical environments, including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a residential facility, and private practice. These rewarding experiences have strengthened my passion for working with individuals dealing with various life stressors and hardships.
On a more personal note…
I enjoy being able to experience new places, whether it is traveling, checking out a neighborhood or new restaurant in the city. In my free time, I can be found reading for my book club, spending time with family and friends or playing beach volleyball.
