DK Therapy has grown in the past six months and we would like to give you the opportunity to get to know a little more about our therapists, what challenges their clients face, and what it would be like to work with them.
At DK, we focus on your comfort within the therapy office. We hope that knowing a bit about your therapist before your first visit, helps you make a connection even before meeting them.
Without further ado Adriane’s interview 2.0…
What are some of the challenges your clients face?
Adriane:
I work with adults of various ages who face different challenges throughout their lives. My clients are often struggling with anxiety, grief, depression and traumatic life events. Often times they turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with their life stressors of having loved ones struggling with alcohol or drugs. Many of my clients are parents who are working through trying to relate better to their children. They are also coping with their children’s own life events or milestones.
What is a therapy session like with you?
Adriane:
I am a pretty blunt person and many of my clients have appreciated my ‘no-nonsense’ and directive approach. I try to use humor when appropriate and try to find beauty where there is none. One of my goals for every therapy session is for my client to have learned something about themselves or others during our hour together. I’ve received feedback from clients saying their sessions have been ‘cathartic,’ ‘helpful,’ and ‘good stuff.’
What self-care activities do you use to reduce life stressors?
Adriane:
It might seem ironic since I talk for a living, but having a good conversation with a family member is one of my favorite ways to reduce stress. I am an avid walker and love taking walks or hikes in nature. I’ve gotten into running this summer and am training to run the Chicago Marathon. Cleaning is also super cathartic and stress-reducing for me. I crank the stereo and get after it! Reading is a big escape for me. I usually have at least two books going at a time. Last but not least, I enjoy cooking and baking for my family and friends. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!
