I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and am often thought of as a calming soul and a positive thinker. My clients experience me as compassionate, relatable, and professional. I try not to take myself too seriously, but when the time comes to get into the more serious issues, I pride myself on being an objective, active listener.
How I Help…
I understand that people are unique in every way and so, I find it important to collaborate with you to develop a therapeutic plan that uses approaches to meet your needs. I utilize skills founded in evidence-based therapies including Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I find that life transitions can have a resounding effect on a person and relationship’s well being. Finding balance and building on personal strengths in order to achieve identified goals becomes important in these moments, as well understanding the importance of self-confidence. I strive to work with clients to find themselves and their individual nature that can help them through whatever they may face.
In addition, to working with adults individually, I also work with couples and I am trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use this evidence-based approach to strengthen or restore relationships. When your romantic relationship provides a sense of confidence and stability, you are able to ‘show-up’ in other relationship-areas of your life such as a co-worker, boss, friend, or sibling. I work with couples in every stage of their relationship, whether they are dating or seeking pre-marital or marital counseling. I also use Gottman Method skills-based tools when working with individuals looking to strengthen their relationships.
I also work with people managing anxiety and depression to build skills, gain insight, and increase self-awareness. I work to provide a safe space for you to explore these issues and provide the necessary tools to face these issues. I truly believe that everyone deserves a life filled with passion and meaning, and I strive to help my clients learn to put the skills learned into practice to live a fulfilled life.
My Background…
I grew up in North Carolina, where I received my undergraduate degree in both psychology and studio art. I moved to Chicago to further my education, and I received my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Art Therapy. As a therapist, I have worked in a hospital setting with adults in crisis working to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as chronic severe mental illness. I have also worked closely with individuals managing chemical dependency. This experience has fortified my longing to offer support to individuals facing life’s obstacles.
On a more personal note…
I am a dreamer and enjoy activities that activate my imagination and creativity. Curled up with a good book and a movie is how I spend most evenings. I enjoy travel and being able to experience new places and different cultures. I enjoy yoga and running to clear my mind and am currently hoping to train and compete in a race.
