DK Therapy has grown in the past few months and we would like to give you the opportunity to get to know a little more about our therapists, what challenges their clients face, and what it would be like to work with them.

At DK, we focus on your comfort within the therapy office. We hope that knowing a bit about your therapist before your first visit, helps you make a connection even before meeting them.

Without further ado…

What challenges do your clients face?

Rachel:

The most common challenges my clients face include struggling with anxiety and depression, especially as emerging adults. My clients often struggle with being able to manage their emotions, having few coping skills that are effective and accessible to use in their day-to-day lives.  With this, I find my clients are unsure of ways to prioritize themselves and their needs, including engaging in self-care and setting boundaries. This can be a difficult transition to make but is well worth the time and effort it can take.

What is a therapy session like with you?

Rachel:

A therapy session with me can present in many different ways, as it is of the utmost importance to me that the service I am providing is the best fit for the individual or couple I am working with. With that being said, some staples of a session with me look like a calm and accepting space, where laughter, tears, and all other emotions are welcome. I strive to create a space where my clients feel comfortable bringing in whatever is on their minds and can know that they may not walk out with a perfect answer, but that they will have a greater understanding of themselves and what the topic means to them.

What self-care activities do you use to manage life stressors?

My cat, loving life.

Rachel:

When thinking about my own experience of self-care, it can look like many different things! I love to dedicate a night to cooking a meal with myself or loved ones that I can truly be proud of (and have leftovers for the next day!), and challenging myself to try new recipes from different cuisines. I find that engaging in some sort of exercise is a positive way to take care of myself, even if starting can be difficult, whether that is going for a walk or run, riding a bike along the lake, or taking a workout class with others.

When at home, I find that spending time with my cat is a huge stress relief between chasing him around as a game of “hunting” or mimicking his casual lifestyle. In any case, I find that there are many ways I can engage in self-care to help manage the stress that can come with life, big or small, it is just about setting aside that time for myself to enjoy and relax.

We hope you enjoyed learning a bit about Rachel.
