DK Therapy has grown in the past few months and we would like to give you the opportunity to get to know a little more about our therapists, what challenges their clients face, and what it would be like to work with them.
At DK, we focus on your comfort within the therapy office. We hope that knowing a bit about your therapist before your first visit, helps you make a connection even before meeting them.
Without further ado…
What do you hope clients gain when working with you?
Dana:
I believe that a strong therapeutic alliance allows clients to process uncomfortable feelings, confront unhealthy habits, and recognize their talents and possibilities for contribution. I aim to impart and encourage a sense of belonging, empowerment, and independence through listening, advocating, and assisting clients to shape their lives as they see best. I always try to impart a sense of limitlessness that I learned at an early age through my own therapeutic journey.
What are some challenges your clients face?
Dana:
Some challenges that my clients face range from self-esteem issues to childhood trauma, anxiety, and depression. My couples tend to face communication and intimacy issues with their partner or spouse. Many of my clients may feel lost in life, are contemplating a career change, healing from a breakup, and moving through all the different stages that life has to offer.
What self-care activities do you use to manage life stressors?
Dana:
When I’m not working with clients, I really like working with my hands. That can be me baking a pie, painting or tiling walls, planting flowers or shrubbery in my backyard, playing the organ or bass guitar, or helping out on my family’s farm in Central Illinois. I also try to take a long walk at least once a day. It helps clear my mind, I enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and it helps me keep in mind that the world isn’t as scary as the news makes it out to be.
